Therapy for Trauma Processing
in East Falls, Philly and virtually throughout PA
You’re having a day where nothing is going right-your shoes aren’t where you expected them to be in the morning, someone cut you off in traffic, and your child gave you a look of disgust that made your blood boil. Inside it feels like you’re going to explode, but on the surface your tone and facial expressions are working hard to make sure that no one knows how you’re actually feeling.
Or maybe you’ve been in an overall healthy relationship for years but never feel quite settled. You constantly find yourself scanning, interpreting and fitting your answers and emotional expression to be what you imagine your partner and friends want from you, and you don’t know how to stop it.
Just like all of your experiences, the Trauma that you’ve experienced hit your body first, before your mind could process what was happening.
No matter how long it’s been or how many years of therapy you’ve been through, those experiences will not stop influencing your every move until you are present in your body enough to let yourself feel the emotional impact of what happened.
The Trauma work I practice is spiraling, non-linear work that is rooted in the present moment with tendrils tracing back to the past.
I don’t need or want you to verbally describe in detail all the traumatic things that have happened to you.
I will support you in remaining as present as you can when talking about present moment pain that is awakening old memories, sensations and images.
Through integrated somatic work and compassion building Internal Family Systems guidance, I help you hold the present while making room to experientially process experiences of shock, pain, abandonment or abuse that are living in your tissues.
By intelligent necessity, trauma might have made you feel and act smaller, tighter, more detached or more chaotic than you may want to.
My goal for each person I work with is for them to build the capacity to express more of who they already are (messy, loud, imperfect, bold) without shutting down.
